What a surprise a Michigan resident had when she opened her local newspaper and found her great-great-grandfather's portrait on the front page! It turns out that he was being honored for his outstanding service during the Civil War with a granite monument in front of the local county courthouse. (Wouldn't this be a dream day for any genealogist with an ancestor in the Civil War?)
